But the thing that sits in the back of my mind is that these large national chains must see something in the Mac that they were carrying it. Even a small percentage of sales is better than no sales. I have to strongly disagree. I believe these outlets actually hurt Mac sales and Apple's reputation overall. Salesmen knew little about the Mac platform, emphasized the media fallacy that Apple was going out of business, and woefully neglected their Apple displays and computers. Even so-called computer outlets like Computer City and CompUSA (before the SWIAS concept) did this. It was horrible and sad.
