Our country has proven the average citizen voter to be driven by insane PC and emotional buttons. I am reasonably certain historians will get it right and declare the voters apparent need to prove they weren't racist actually was a large element in their decision to vote in a racial manner. So long had they been brainwashed into believing racism is a one way street. Now there is more racism than there was prior to the 2008 election. More racial violence. Racial voting, no matter what the motivation will always end up with racist results.
