Alpine Valley is in my back yard

it was a hot, muggy, foggy night

6+ plus hour concert

opened with Robert Cray

then SRV - he wore a purple shirt, his signature bolero hat

I was up close, maybe 6th row - when he played the left stage edge he was in my lap

his eyes closed, body and soul into his playing [I remember thinking he goes into another world when he plays] - his body curled over his guitar - he rocked the house - was the great bluesman, his voice....

then Clapton - watching/hearing them one after another, to me, it was clear Clapton was the best guitarist - just sounded crisper/cleaner/sharper and he way jammed

the encore brought them all on stage - so hot, well you heard it

as the night wore on it got foggier and foggier - leaving, as usual, take hours - the car windows open - we didn't hear a crash

Alpine Valley is also a Ski resort - the copter crashed into a ski hill - was all over the news the next morning

sad

I've kept my ticket stub
