5/17/2019 Contest update
It was my birthday week and my wife and I celebrated in Point Reyes. You might want to put it on your bucket list if you’ve never been there. Nature highlights were the incredible variety of ferns on the Bear Valley trail and sighting of a cinnamon teal. Food highlight was grilled local garden asparagus.
Meanwhile, fear of a Trump trade war put biotechs along with the broader market on the defensive. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 10.43% YTD (vs. up 12.10% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 7.05% YTD (vs. up 8.42% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 14.49% YTD (vs. up 16.47% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 17.80% YTD (vs. up 19.32% YTD a week ago).
BULBA’s portfolio, up 84.43% YTD, got an IOVA birthday gift, significantly widening its Contest lead. OHM’s portfolio, up 58.70% YTD, held on to second place with ANDRE’s portfolio, up 50.21% YTD, taking over third place.
At Friday's close, 30 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, while 23 were beating the NBI and 15 were still beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 21.15% and a median YTD gain of 10.61%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe & relaxing May weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
