U.S. to Charge AOL with Fraud
Wed Dec 15, 2004 11:14 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government will charge Time Warner Inc's (TWX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) America Online unit with aiding and abetting securities fraud but will defer prosecution for two years, a U.S. Justice Department official said.
The official said AOL had agreed to cooperate with the investigation. In a criminal complaint that will be filed in Virginia, the Justice Department will accuse AOL and PurchasePro of engaging in a scheme to inflate revenue, the official said.

AOL will be fined $210 million in criminal-related fines, the official said.
