Brumar, The 1619 Project is all about revising all of American history to center around America's "true" founding date, which coincides with the arrival of the first African slaves onto the colony of Virginia.
This revisionism is meant to support the notion that America was founded solely on the backs of slaves. Even the American Revolutionary War, in that context, wasn't fought to free America from British rule. Instead, it was fought to preserve slavery.
And everything that happened which benefitted America, from that revised viewpoint, was only enabled because of the hard work, blood, sweat, tears, suffering, and sacrificed lives of Black slaves.
Everything.
Including America's victories in the French and Indian War, America's intellectual and industrial development, America's expansionism toward the West Coast, and even America's unique status as a "nation of immigrants." Even America's technological advantage today.
None of that was possible without the hard work of the slaves, which the white man profited off of.
In other words, we owe everything to Black people. Without them, we would be no greater than, say, Mexico or Canada.
That's the narrative that Nikole Hannah-Jones wants to advance with the sponsorship of the NYTimes. And she even won a Pulitzer Prize for her work.
Do you see now what the left is trying to push?
Do you see now why this is much more than just teaching about the history of slavery in America?
