From Briefing.com: General Commentary
Updated for: March 24, 1998

Reversing Friday's trend, the tech sector outpaced the broader market
on monday... But this pattern isn't likely to hold as Cabletron
surprised the street in two ways... First, it announced earnings a
week ahead of schedule... Second, it reported a Q4 loss of $0.04, when
the consensus estimate called for a gain of $0.03 to $0.06 (depending
on the earnings service)...Prior to the company's warning about a
month ago, street had been looking for a gain of closer to $0.20...
Product transition problems continue to plague company which is
struggling to remain competitive with the likes of Cisco and Bay.

Computer Networking

Brief: As reported in the General Commentary above, CS reported weaker
than expected earnings due to sluggish sales of older products and
pricing pressures... Stock was down 1/16 in Monday's trading... Expect
modest sell-off in response to the report... Support in the 13 1/2
range... 3Com rallied over one point ahead of its earnings report due
out after today's close... Unlike Bay and CS, street betting that COMs
problems are behind it... Street looking for a gain of $0.14...
Networking industry is subject of this week's StreetBeat
(http://www.briefing.com/Schwab/street.htm)... One stock favorably
mentioned in this week's report, Ascend, rose 1 1/8 despite being
downgraded to underperform from market perform by Adams Harkness.
