Jeff: How can you say you think the Fletcher Survey is probably accurate. A couple of weeks ago they interviewed the owners/management of Dixons' FreeServe in a UK newspaper. They reported FreeServe has 1.2 million subscribers.(Other reporters know better than the owners and say 1.5 million) In your post #1404, FreeServe represents 31% of UK ISP Market. The UK news media reports X-stream has 350,000 subscribers. Based on that X-Stream represents 9%, not 3% as quoted in the Fletcher Survey. If 1.2 million = 31% for FreeServe, 3% for X-stream would mean 116,000 subscribers, not 350,000.??? (A quote from Canadian Market News "LAST FALL" - Oct. 21st., 1998 -"Within 7 1/2 months of its launch, the x-stream network, the UK's first free ISP, can now boast over 118,000 registered users".)- Is that where Fletcher got his figure for X-Stream????
Jeff: I'm sick of reading U.K. news reports that say there are 50 some say 70 ISP's in the UK. Add up those percentage slices Fletcher gives those 13 companies and it equals 101%.!!!!! There's none of the pie left for the other 40 or 50 ISP's.!!!! Can anyone explain that???? |
