Roth Capital upgraded Intel from Neutral to Buy. And in a more subdued move, Morgan Stanley, which has been bearish on the stock for two years, raised its opinion to Market Weight from Underweight.

Intel derives two-thirds of its income from the PC computer chip market, which it dominates. But times are tough for the PC industry. Consumers have shifted their spending to smartphones and tablets, and until recently, many companies opted to make do without hardware upgrades.

Intel, however, is changing with the times. Chief Executive Brian Krzanich has ended the company's contemptuous attitude toward tablets and smartphones and put its massive research and manufacturing power behind a new line of small chips, dubbed Atom, designed for mobile devices.[snip]
