Geron Corp. Up In Late Trading On Gene Cloning News Dow Jones Newswires NEW YORK -- Shares of Geron Corp. (GERN) remained active in after-hours trading following the company's announcement late Thursday that it cloned a gene related to cancer growth. PT Discount Brokerage trader Dale Boolton said Geron shares were trading after hours at 14 1/2, up from their close of 14. The company announced that it cloned a gene that makes a protein that is an essential part of telomerase enzyme, which allows cancer cells to grow unrestrained. During the regular session Friday, Geron shares rose 7 1/2, or 115%. Technology stocks showed slight movement in late trading, with International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) edging up to 100 from a close of 99 15/16, and Ascend Communications Inc. (ASND) trading late at 45 7/16, unchanged. - Ted W. Kemp
