Yes, some kids are more interested than others, and I have no objection to Little League. But whether they want it or not, sports should not be too physically demanding or all consuming in their lives. Besides, a lot of kids are eager for parental approval, and take their cue from that, so "innate competitiveness" is a difficult quality to gauge. Incidentally, I have similar objections to ballet, which depends on getting most dancers, especially females, by about 7 years old, and puts them through a grueling regimen for years, when most of them will not be stars or appear with major companies.......
