<Anybody care to comment on Pixar-Sun deal on the new render farm?
This one doesn't sound like Sun give Pixar boxes for free.>

Pixar bought quite a few Octanes for interactive work, probably the best choice today for a facility in a multiyear project. I don't think SGI's are a prudent choice for rendering. Sun boxes are the best value for Renderman rendering.(Renderman does not run on NT) this is probably indicative of a lot of the segmentation we'll see, SGI's for the artists seats, Suns, Alphas and assorted NT boxes for rendering.
How much does 48 14 processor machines cost?
Anybody have a cost-per-frame comparison of these 14 processor Ultra's with some O-box configuration? (the only valid benchmark is a large scene to Renderman, same version on both boxes)
i'm sure Sun would be happy to place a few thousand of these boxes around the back rooms of the film industry, leaving the SGI's to get the glory of screen shots on Movie Magic.
