<The 2GHz P4 has higher SPEC int AND fp scores than Itanium, what's with that?! Foster w/2MB L3 cache should blow it away. Didn't Rob bring up this potential situation some time ago? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Itanium is 64-bit and is paving the way for McKinley.>

Yes. The "pincer" move. Merced is Dead. But IA64 lives
on and on.

I think a leg up for McKinley might be something like
a 4 processor box with 8 Gigs of Memory and does tpmC better
than a 4 processor RISC box to kickstart W2K on IA64.
(Cheaper and faster than RISC but still neck and neck
with IA32, strange as it seems).

I think IA64 gets off to a very slow start. This isn't
new thinking. But does run contrary to all the glowing
reports you might have read 12-18 months ago.
