One of the articles mentions that Hyperthreading will make it into server chips in 2002, and desktop chips later on. I think the sooner, the better. Hyperthreading could easily put Pentium 4 equal to the Athlon on a clock-per-clock basis, even on legacy apps. It could also be a nice way for Intel to differentiate their value line from their performance line. The future Celeron can be a Northwood chip without Hyperthreading, and the Pentium variety will have it enabled. This will allow Intel to streamline their desktop product line once again, allowing for much easier transitions. Now, Intel has to start getting Hyperthreading enabled in their IA-64 processor line (if they haven't already!) to leave the RISC market in the dust.
