My dad started off with a heart attack- he had severely occluded veins - so he had bypass surgery, but then he couldn't handle the anti-clotting drugs, because his alcoholism had compromised his liver, and when they had to stop the clotting drugs he had a stroke, then another, and then went in to a coma from which he never recovered.
