Did I also fail to mention that empirically I have found Reps. to be the most mean, underhanded, dishonest mothafukkers on the planet who give squat about what the people want?
This idea that government should deliver "what the people want" is precisely what made Clinton, Carter, and LBJ the worst presidents in modern times. Clinton couldn't go take a leak without Dick Morris' advice. Why? Because his primary interest was in giving the public "what the people want" to insure his election or that of his liberal successor.
This is the difference between a great leader, like Bush (either of them, actually) or a Teddy Roosevelt, and a total screw up like Clinton. A great leader will take actions, whether popular or not, with the understanding of the greater good to be served.
While Clinton often took unpopular actions, they were ALWAYS followed with trying to undo the mistake. So you get Don't Ask-Don't Tell; you get MonicaGate; you get PardonGate; you get ensuing years of trying to develop a legacy where there is none.
Are Republicans mean, dirty, underhanded. Hardly. Not when compared to a sorry schmuck like Terry McAuliffe, or Dick Gephardt, or Tom Dacschle, the man in charge of obstruction.
Frankly, the current crop of Democrats are laughable. They have totally put party politics ahead of the nation's interest. I believe the public will skewer them for it, too. |
