8:44AM Micron Tech (MU) 30.70: -- Update -- Reuters reporting that despite MU's acquisition of Toshiba DRAM biz (see 7:29 comment), MU is still in talks with Hynix; the Korean company's head of restructuring tells Reuters that talks between the companies are separate from the MU/Toshiba talks.

7:56AM Solectron (SLR) 14.81: Reports Q1 net of $0.05 a share, in line with consensus, vs yr-ago EPS of $0.31. Sales fell 44.6% to $3.15 bln (consensus $2.985 bln). For Q2, co sees cash EPS of $0.01-$0.04 (consensus $0.07). "We remain cautious about the near-term direction of the economy and its impact on the end markets we serve."

7:42AM DBAB on Semi Equipment : DB Alex. Brown cautious on semi equipment makers, initiates 2003 ests for group about 25% below consensus; forward expectations are still too high, as even optimistic projections suggest wait could be 3 qtrs. Firm favors back-end names such as LTXX and TER, which have superior leverage in an upturn; raises price target for TER to $37 from $32.

7:40AM ESS Tech (ESST) 21.85: Co raises Q4 guidance to $0.26-$0.30 from previous guidance of $0.22-$0.24. Consensus for the qtr was $0.23. ESST attributes upside to strong consumer demand for DVD players.

7:18AM GlobeSpan (GSPN) 12.60: Morgan Stanley reinitiates coverage with a STRONG BUY rating and $35 price target; believes stk offers investors one of the most compelling risk/reward ratios in the wired communications IC sector; expects GSPN to benefit as telcos step up DSL deployments; sees VRTA merger becoming accretive in mid-2003.

7:01AM Infineon Tech (IFX) 21.80: Announced that it has ended negotiations with Toshiba on their memory chip joint venture, as both sides were unable to reach a mutual agreement.
