You seem to have a reasonable take on what is going on here (at least one that I agree with, anyway, so it's reasonable to me!). I would be interested in hearing your opinion of what Ballmer was trying to accomplish.

Of course there is a great deal of over-reaction to the whole situation, but he did not just make this stuff up on the fly (and he did see his investment in MS go down $1B+ on paper). Any thoughts you are willing to share?

EDIT: I meant to add -- to you see anything here other than MS' standard expectations management game?
