I bring up the argumentum per impossibile to point out why your stand is questionable from a logic standpoint. For some quite rational people, YOUR god is the problem. And in a public school, other people's children shouldn't be forced into any kind of acceptance of your- or any- god.
And that when an authority figure presents it as a given truth, that is pressure to believe and act in a certain way.

You should not HAVE to pull your child from the public school team because his coach is leading him in something that doesn't reflect your beliefs. I would be right there with you saying how wrong that was. But then, we also have to protect the child whose parents don't believe in any god, or a different manifestation, from the same kind of pressure.

It doesn't matter where the complaints came from. Most teens wouldn't want their parents to say anything for fear of calling attention to themselves. It was against the law. I don't understand your reluctance to accept this--- even if you disagree with it, which you are certainly allowed to do!
