bin Laden opposes US presence in the middle east. It does not mean that bin Laden is connected to Saudi Arabia or Palestine or Iraq. It means that he opposes US influence in the region. He opposed the US and attacked the US before we went into Iraq.

There was no connection between Al Qaeda and Iraq.

Spain was assisting the US in the war in Iraq, and there fore bin Laden likely ordered or approved of an attack on Madrid.
