I think Arafat just wants an independent Palistine as a first step. If he gets it he might allow more peace in the region for awhile but when he saw an advantage to doing so he would start up the violence again. But his demands for even accepting this agreement where too great. Israel made an offer, he didn't accept and he started the violence again. It might possibly be out of his control now but he let the lid off of it in the first place.

Tim, I am not condoning Arafat's behavior at all. My concern is that current conditions are becoming like a tinderbox, waiting to explode with a big escalation of military operations in the Middle East. I think the only thing keeping other Muslim/Arab countries in check is the US.....and I think Arafat and Sharon also are depending on the US to save them from the abyss. Scary......
