Yes, SGI must know they have limited earnings potential in the lower end of their lines. Maybe their software/hardware integration will keep them going for a while. Looking at Crays balance sheet on their Web Site indicates CRAY should be profitable even without SGI. Positive aspects would be:

Consolidation of R&D expenses.
Expanded Client Base.
Technology sharing in hardware and software.
Service fee income from CRAY.
Large scale system sales should increase as more "clients" run software like "Java".
Modeling of real time processes requires more computing power than is now available.
Expanded Sales Staff.

OH, last but not least would be the merging of all the telephones, what with AT&T wanting to raise rates about 5% maybe they will go with MCI friends and family.
