hoping this lasts till november

That would be funny. But I have to take exception to a small point in the article.

SPRINGFIELD -- President Bush is still not on the ballot in Illinois because the General Assembly has failed to correct a snafu in state law -- increasing the chance the federal courts will have to step in.

Illinois is the only place where Bush's status is uncertain. The problem stems from the GOP's scheduling its convention after the deadlines several states set for presidential candidates to be placed on their ballots.

There's no snafu in state law. The GOP picked the schedule for the convention. They knew, and certainly should have known, what the State Laws were for deadlines. Deadlines for entering a Presidential race aren't some obscure law, like you can't tie up your horse in front of a bar on Sunday. If the GOP doesn't want to comply with the various state laws, to hell with them.

I'd love to see them end up in Court fighting it. It's the law; you ignored the law; you lose. Since when are states legally obliged to change state law to comply with the whims of a political party.

Of course, in this particular case, conservatives don't care about the Rule of Law.

I can just see Ralph Nader running into the picture. With all the problems he has complying with State Laws to get on the ballot, neither party has stood up and claimed that the law should be changed to allow him to run.
