This looks like it could develop into something big. I really like the part "demand is exceeding the capabilities of any one company."

HILLSBORO, Ore., Jul 25, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- RadiSys Corp. (Nasdaq: RSYS chart, msgs), a leading global designer and manufacturer of building blocks enabling next-generation Internet and communications systems, has signed an agreement with Intel Corporation to develop products and technology relating to the Intel(R) Internet Exchange(TM) (IX) architecture -- a framework for designing powerful and flexible networking and telecommunications equipment using reprogrammable silicon.
Under the agreement, RadiSys will develop and market semiconductor companion chips for the Intel IXP1200 Network Processor, such as chips that connect the IXP1200 to various types of communications buses and protocols. Additionally, RadiSys will develop and market board-level solutions that incorporate the IXP1200.
One example of a board-level solution, demonstrated by RadiSys at SuperComm 2000 in early June, is a CompactPCI(R) voice-over-IP (Internet protocol) gateway that transforms a large number of voice channels between G.711-based TDM voice channels and an IP packet network.
"This is a highly innovative use of the IXP1200 Network Processor because of the focus on a voice application," remarked Dr. Glen Myers, CEO, RadiSys. "The incredible speed of the IXP1200 and its micro-engines allows us to process very small voice-over-IP packets, and these small packets eliminate the need for echo cancellation, while still maintaining a superior QoS (quality of service). Given that our gateway solution can handle an unprecedented 1,024 full-duplex channels, it is a leading-edge example of the density and power efficiency possible with the IXP1200 Network Processor. Our development agreement with Intel in this area will help accelerate the availability of companion chips to the IXP1200, as well as board-level building blocks."
"The rapid growth of the Internet and other communications services is creating a great demand for networking and telecommunications equipment building blocks at all levels, and this demand is exceeding the capabilities of any one company," said Tom Franz, Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Network Processing Group. "Intel and RadiSys will work closely together to deliver an expanded set of capabilities and products to this market at an accelerated pace."
RadiSys (Nasdaq: RSYS chart, msgs) designs and manufactures building blocks for next-generation Internet, communications, industrial automation, medical equipment, and transaction terminal applications. As the leading independent provider to OEMs, RadiSys delivers a time-to-market advantage in a tight "virtual division" relationship with its customers. The building blocks include Intel-based embedded computers, DSP modules and algorithms, network interfaces and protocols, systems platforms, embedded software, systems engineering and integration services. RadiSys' highly differentiated position in the market is a result of its intense focus on Intel-based technology, having the broadest array of building blocks, and a "perfect fit" product development strategy using its intellectual property to design customer subsystems.

Except for the historical statements and information contained herein, the matters discussed in this press release, including the statements regarding expectations of future orders and estimated revenues from design wins, are forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties. The following are among the factors that could cause actual results to differ materially: business conditions and growth in the telecommunications and electronics industry and general economy, both domestic and international; dependence on a limited number of OEM customers; dependence on the relationship with Intel; lower than expected customer orders or variations in customer order patterns due to changes in demand for customers' products and customer and channel inventory levels; competitive factors, including pricing pressures, technological developments and products offered by competitors; availability of components and qualified personnel; technological difficulties and resource constraints encountered in developing new products; the timely flow of competitive new products and market acceptance of those products; difficulties in successfully combining the operations of RadiSys and Texas Micro Inc.; dependence on a limited number of suppliers; and risks associated with foreign currency rate fluctuations and other international operational risks. The forward-looking statements should be considered in light of these factors.
