So while I'm in dot-connecting mode, thought I'd go back through the archives looking for a post whose context may not have been understood at the time. The post I was searching for was a reply to el_gaverio, from last September actually. In a previous post, he had commented:

If anyone wants to time travel, and see how this same structural dilemma played out in terms of monetary mechanics in the 1920's and '30s, and the consequent unraveling of the gold standard, I again highly recommend the epic 1,300+ page tome Tragedy and Hope, written in 1964 by Professor Carroll Quigley. A fascinating read.

Sorry for the "contextual" posts. Will try to stick to more "economic" focused posts from here on in.
