Mike, well I'll be darned. It appears the 36170 chassis can be congiured into a DSLAM of sorts. An overkill DSLAM, but a DSLAM nonetheless. DSLAMs generally have no port-to-port switching functions (as you would get with this 36170 config) as none are necessary. A muxing function is all thats necessary. Hence, the pricing of the 36170 config is likely not competitive, but I will do some more research and report back on things such as price and port densities. I will also re-listen to TM's comments.
In any event, NN never gets a mention a "DSL equipment" supplier. There's a reason for this. Either the product truly is sub-optimized, or NN does a poor job of marketing it against ALA, RBAK, CMTN, CSCO, ECIL, etc. BTW, ALA leads the market by a long-shot, with around 50% of all deployments, both CO and CPE.
