Ted the Taliban wasn't a significant factor in the country at the time when we were giving out weapons. Of course as the Taleban got more powerful everyone started to line up behind it (similar to but slower then what happened when the various warlords turned against it during our post 9/11 military campaign). So now these warlords and their followers where Taliban or at least Taliban allies.

I've heard some units had some old 19th century British rifles, does that mean that 19th century Britain armed the Taleban? They also had a lot of Soviet stuff that was taken during the war, or in some cases sold to them by Russian soldiers. (Yes the Russians actually sometimes sold fuel or even weapons to their enemies. Discipline in the Soviet Army was going in to the toilet at the time).
