Right.........now the Palestinians are roaches. This attitude is just what is needed.

Both you and I know that he was comparing the persistence needed to fight roaches with the persistence to fight Palestinians. Twisting it to say he was calling the Palestinians roaches is petty and a unnecessary distraction.

Brian, I don't agree and if fact, I think you are wrong in your conclusion. But even if you are right, it was an unfortunate way to make one's point.

Ray has a number of misconceptions; another example is that he sees me as a bleeding heart. In truth, I have compassion for my fellow man but definitely, not at my own expense. My reaction to what's happening in Israel or in Afghanistan or in Chechenya has little to do with bleeding heartism. These conflicts are far more complex than good vs evil, us against them.

And that's what has me concerned. We expect our superior force to take care of the problem. However, I am not convinced that it will work; that things will be resolved satisfactorily by using force and repression; that the enemy will be forced to the table to negotiate and then go quietly into the nite. And more and more, I see the Israel/Palestinian conflict as a metaphor for what the war on terrorism can turn into. Unfortunately, we have a lot more to lose than the Israelis and are much less prepared to do so.
