How 'bout legalizing marijuana (or all drugs)-
In principle I'm for the idea. In practical terms, at least legalizing marijuana would seem to make sense. Legalizing harder drugs as well would expand the benefits, but also expand the reasons for concern. Maybe starting with marijuana would be either a good start, or a good compromise (if it ends there).
have the feds conduct a national lottery
I'm not solidly against the idea, but in a sense its a regressive tax, its not really a tax because its voluntary, but it does cost the poor more than the wealthy. Also it may just take revenue away from state lotteries.
intensify a luxury tax on prestige-like items That doesn't really work so well. It tends to hit the makers of the prestige items hard (it was a bad failure when they taxed yachts and luxury boats). Also its an example of busybody government, trying to stick its nose in an influence people's personal spending decisions. Obviously the government needs revenue, we can't just cancel all taxes, anarchy isn't a good idea, but the taxes should be as simple and neutral as possible, not trying to favor some goods over others.
make pharmaceutical companies pay for their own research
They pay for the research to develop drugs. The government pays for more basic research. They are too different things even if related.
consider a maximum wage instead of a minumum wage
More busy body government interfering in people's freedoms. Also there is no real justification for it, not good that it would do. And it would do some harm.
And practically if you decide to implement it how do you treat stock options in start ups, company cars, special perks for execs and such. It would tend to divert resources currently used for pay in to lavish facilities and vehicles (like private jets) for the use of execs.
negotiate a nuclear aresenal decline
Been there, done that.
try to lift instead of mold developing nation
A very vague, almost meaningless statement.
cease illegally invading nations You have to be doing something in order to stop it.
perhaps have more community-central related businesses rather than allowing our whole society to become Walmartized Yes government direction of how businesses should be set up and operated, because we all know how well central planning has worked every time its been tried in the past... |
