The big factor for all ICE vehicles is not to pull too much power out of the engine before it has fully warmed up. Aluminum pistons shrink more than cast iron blocks in cold temps!

In aircraft engines (Lycoming and Continental's) it's critical until oil temps, pistons and cylinders have warmed up because cylinder's have a lot of "choke" built into them. (they are smaller in diameter at the head interface than farther down towards the crankshaft)
