Sadly I find it as funny as when I first read that headline that says a $3.8B error was found by WCOM.

After thinking about it, I suspect the market might have already discounted the cost if the cost was known and listed as a fuzzy asset (After having been burnt so many times by dotcoms, I've been discounting investments, goodwill, intangibles and "other assets" when determining a "reliable" book value for companies).

WCOM will now expense certain costs rather than capitalize them. With the costs now expensed to past periods, future earnings should appear better than otherwise!
