533MHz FSB coming for Rambus, DDR

Dell sources ring warning bell
By Mike Magee, 14/09/2001 08:57:20 BST

SOURCES CLOSE TO DELL said it will introduce "Rainier" 533MHz front side bus technology for a 266MHz double data rate (DDR) Brookdale machine in the second quarter of next year.
The information confirms that PCs will support quad data rate (QDR) technology, and also suggests future Rambus chipsets will take another look at quadding up its technology.

Rambus holds its developers forum towards the end of this month in San Jose, California.

At the end of November, Dell will introduce a Northwood single processor machine in a minitower and desktop form factor.

But this machine will get a facelift perhaps as early as June 2002, when Dell will introduce a 533MHz front side bus (FSB) RDRAM chipset into the equation.

This machine is intended to replace the Dell Precision 330, which is a P4 using the 850 chipset - and that will shuffle off its mortal coil early December. µ
