RE:"I have no idea but unlike you I assume Intel management must have a reason. The fact that it isn't clear to me isn't proof that they're morons. As I said before, with the advent of SMT it is clear that DRDRAM's shortcoming, latency, is now much less of an issue and it's strength, bandwidth is untarnished. FSB speeds will go up to 533MHz and I assume DRDRAM speeds will increase as well to keep it fed. This may not be of much significance on the desktop but it probably will mean a lot at the highend. Could it be that higher speed versions of DRDRAM mean a new set of patents and new licenses?"

Well, despite the dislike for Rambus I do realize they have a niche market.
I wonder if we will ever know the details of the agreement.
OK, maybe an agreement is necessary because that's the protocol but it seems at this point, Rambus should be slithering on their belly begging Intel to use their stuff...
If Rambus actually wields any negociation power with Intel I would think it's because of prior agreements binding Intel to Rambus...but hey, I realize that we need to see the agreement...will we and does it really matter...
Rambus is likely just a niche product now.
