I hope the diehard poets lurking around will forgive our digression. There is a certain amount of pathos involved in it, I think they will agree.

I understand completely. There are always trade offs.

I could be wrong, but I think The Nature Conservancy deals with full title to lands they are interested in. Conservation easements allow the landowner to continue their current management, or an improved management, such as selling landowner hunting permits. There are other organizations that specialize in easements.

I haven't heard of Kit Laney, but I'd like to know his story.

I'm ambivalent about wolf reintroduction programs. I'm not sure what purpose it serves, nor am I sure we will like its full implementation. However, it makes ecological sense.

The problem is: human over population. On the Bear Stories thread, we discussed the fate of the only bear to show up in Germany in the last fifty years.
