Sure, I see a lot of people saying they want a more security, tighter borders and more emphasis on America and helping Americans. On the other hand, I see whiners, constitutional Lawyers saying Bush can't do this or that, etc....can't profile people, can't give up freedoms...etc. Just wondering what will happen or how long it will take for people to forget. Or will America become a less lax society.
Gotcha! I think you're getting a little bipolar / black and white with this one, but I do understand where you're coming from. I think we need to be very careful about the Visa process, but that it shouldn't be based solely on nationality. There are a lot of people fleeing countries in the Middle East because they find one regime or another oppressive. Should we turn away the legitimate refugee to prevent the entry of the terrorist? It's a tricky question. Profiling is another tricky question which is really a bit beyond the scope of the discussion as it touches on other issues. However Americans should not give up their Rights under the Constitution. Without those rights, this geographic combine ceases to be America. I guess my question to you is what do you think is needed? What freedoms that Americans enjoy today do you think should be curtailed in the hopes of providing greater safety? I think we have to proceed carefully, and proceed with a level-head on this one. I'm not saying that certain freedoms may not be curtailed for a time, but if America sells it's soul in order to be "safe from terrorism," then the enemy has already won... |
