Former Compaq CEO to Bring IT Expertise to E-Commerce Software Concern

NEW YORK, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Intershop Communications Inc., the leader
in sell-side e-commerce software, today announced that Eckhard Pfeiffer,
former CEO of Compaq Computer Corporation, has joined the San Francisco-based
company as Chairman of the Board.
The appointment was approved by Intershop's Board of Directors earlier
this month and will become effective immediately.
Mr. Pfeiffer's appointment was announced at Intershop's first annual
Intershop Open, E-Commerce Summit and user conference in New York. The company
also announced its new enfinity suite of sells-side e-commerce solutions for
enterprise level e-commerce.
"There are few executives who have the kind of experience with enterprise
IT that our new chairman brings to Intershop," said Stephan Schambach, CEO and
one of the founders of Intershop. "As Intershop enters into the enterprise
market in full force, Eckhard's leadership and vision will be an invaluable
resource."
Mr. Pfeiffer, who served as Compaq President and CEO from 1991 until his
departure in April 1999, will serve as an advisor to the company's management
team and as the leader of the company's board of directors.
"This is a young, very smart company in a seminal space in the emerging
digital economy," said Mr. Pfeiffer. "As I looked for a new opportunity and
considered the next step in my career, e-commerce seemed to be a hot market
segment and Intershop said they could benefit from my experience in enterprise
IT; each of us had what the other was looking for."
Mr. Pfeiffer will assume the board seat vacated by Dr. Gert Koehler,
President of Technologieholding, an early investor and board member. He
remains an investor.
Intershop enfinity was announced today, October 4th, at the Intershop Open
in New York. Key speakers at the Open include Meg Whitman, President and CEO
of eBay, Inc., Mark Linesch, Vice President of E-Commerce Solutions for COMPAQ
Computer Organization, George Paolini, Vice President of Software Marketing at
Sun Microsystems and Stephan Schambach, President and CEO of Intershop. For
