Anyone read today's WSJ article about the McCain Bill (p. A6)? It basically states that Senators Trent Lott and Don Nickles question the size of the payments. Mr. Nickels said, "You don't have to have hundreds of billions of dollars switch hands to try to combat youth tobacco and drug use." This followed the White House's urging that penalties should be "raised substantially" and presented McCain with a specific schedule of penalties. Basically, the White House wanted to make the bill even tougher by throwing out antitrust exemption and broader secondhand smoke restrictions....

This is crazy, I'm going to write again to the WSJ, and to Sen's Lott and Nickels this time, saying that I support their stance that these taxes and astronomical penalties are unnecessary. This is getting nuts.
