I'll have to accept your knowledge of the medical business as superior to mine, Mike. I don't have any other understanding of how it works, except what I've seen personally.

I thought a PPO (preferred provider organization?) was a group of docs who sign on to a particular insurer, and agree to accept their rates? What I'm talking about is more like plain old Medicare, where the patient can pick any doc they want, not just those participating in the plan.

If the docs can make money off their Medicare patients, it seems reasonable to me that those prices would be fair for everyone. Every other business that I can think of has competitive prices, I don't know why the medicos should be any different.
