Well, some more evidence of people thinking that making money in the stock-market is a sure thing :

My friend wanted to buy a used car and I went along with him when he was looking for it. When we decided on a car, my friend wanted to pay for it in full, but the car dealer suggested that he finance it instead. And helpfully added that my friend could instead "put the money to work in the stock-market", where he could "surely make 15 to 20%"!

When I asked the car-dealer why he would lend my friend money at 8% when the 15% to 20% return from stocks was a "sure thing", the dealer relented and let my friend pay in full.

And then he told me that he was able to convince almost a dozen guys to finance their purchase before he encountered us!

Dipy.
