"If I hear $299, I at least think different price class than $399."

I think we'd see more cannibalization of the larger iPad with a mini at $299 than at $329. Maybe below $250, it would start to reach into a pricing tier that expands the market rather than competes with the existing market. But honestly, it doesn't look like that price tier is big enough to be worth Apple's time. Nexus 7, selling at cost, only sold 2 million copies in its launch quarter. Apple should outsell that by Sunday. For all we know, Kindle Fire does much better, but we saw last Christmas that it does so with very little effect on iPad sales. It's a different market, not just a different market segment. You have a Kindle right? That didn't prevent you from buying a Surface :).
