Toronto Stock Exchange to Remain Closed Wednesday

TORONTO (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange will remain closed on Wednesday after devastating attacks in the United States shuttered the doors on U.S. financial markets.

"We are remaining closed to allow market participants to assess damage," said a TSE spokeswoman.

Both the country's largest stock exchange located in Toronto and the junior market, the CDNX, based in Vancouver and Calgary, will not open on Wednesday.

The decision to open later in the week will be made on a "day to day" basis, said the spokeswoman, and a decision to open on Thursday or remain closed will be made before the close of business on Wednesday.

The TSE 300 composite index dropped about 295 points or 4 percent to a 4 1/2 year low at 7048.80 before the market was halted on Tuesday morning.
