(Nasdaq: MANU - news), a leading global provider of intelligent supply chain solutions for enterprises and evolving eBusiness trading networks, today announced that Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN - news), the world's leading online retailer, has selected Manugistics NetWORKS eBusiness solutions to support Amazon.com's global expansion and operational improvement initiatives. Amazon.com, which is expanding its global trading network across Europe, intends to create an improved customer experience for more than 20 million customers in more than 150 countries.
Manugistics eBusiness solutions can provide Amazon.com with critical visibility into its global fulfillment network, facilitating the company's initiative to consolidate individual shipments across all shipping operations while designing and managing a global trading network-allowing more efficient, cost-effective flow of goods from the company's suppliers to its customers worldwide.
``As a company that continually works to provide the best shopping experience for customers, we sought out a leading provider of eBusiness solutions capable of addressing the scale and complexity of our worldwide operations,'' said Jeff Wilke, vice president and general manager of operations at Amazon.com. ``Manugistics' proven eFulfillment execution and delivery, combined with the company's vision for eBusiness, convinced us that it is best suited to accelerate our ambitious plans for rapid growth while still meeting or exceeding our customers' expectations.''

Manugistics NetWORKS Strategy? will model Amazon.com's fixed and variable costs, varying transportation and supplier lead times, and global constraints such as tariffs and taxes. This model will help Amazon.com to create an optimal network design for the capital investment planning necessary for Amazon.com's global expansion, including identifying desirable global locations for new distribution centers.
NetWORKS Strategy will also provide Amazon.com with a time-phased view to support optimal ongoing network design and policy decision-making. The solution will model Amazon.com's time-phased demand and supply perspective to determine the appropriate short and long term business strategy. Additionally, it will help Amazon.com set optimal inventory levels and decide appropriate product mix and storage capacity across the network. The solution will even suggest seasonal pre-builds and optimal lane volumes to maximize customer service during the holiday season and other peak periods.
Using NetWORKS Transport(TM), Amazon.com's global control center will simultaneously plan Amazon.com's inbound, and interfacility shipments for increased visibility in order to achieve reduced costs, and better control of its freight management. NetWORKS Transport will also allow Amazon.com to automatically tender loads on the Internet, track inbound shipments, pay carriers, allocate freight costs, and run historical reports for improved transportation planning. Automatic real-time notifications via facsimile, e- mail, or pager will also give Amazon.com and its trading partners the ability to proactively solve transportation issues.
Manugistics NetWORKS Strategy and Transport solutions' cost-and-business- rules-based approach is engineered to minimize costs to customers.
