This article goes into something I've thought about, the adverse effects of Google and Amazon's business models of giving away hardware at cost, subsidized by advertising and content sales respectively, on technological innovation in the hardware sector. Will we ultimately end up with crappier hardware with innovation channeled toward better showing us ads and selling us toothpaste? engadget.com
