nice win Singapore Telecom Awards Nortel S$100M Contract Dow Jones Newswires SINGAPORE -- A unit of Northern Telecom Ltd. (NT) said Friday that Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (P.SGT) has awarded it a contract worth more than S$100 million (US$1=S$1.6561) to expand its local mobile GSM 1800 telecommunications network. Nortel Networks said in a statement that it will supply additional radio and switching equipment, as well as enhance existing its switches currently in the SingTel Mobile network. Nortel Networks has been working with SingTel Mobile since 1995 on the installation and expansion of its GSM1800 network. Tay Soo Meng, senior director of engineering at SingTel Mobile, a unit of SingTel, said that the mobile telephone operator will invest some S$300 million in the coming year in its GSM900 and GSM1800 networks, after having spent more than S$850 million so far.
