ECONOMIC & FISCAL FAILURES: CHRISTIE AND CORBETT BY THE NUMBERS

Job Growth

  • 50th– When Christie took office, New Jersey ranked 18th in the nation in job creation. As of March 2014, it ranked 50th – dead last. [Bureau of Labor Statistics]
  • 47th– When Corbett took office, Pennsylvania was 7th in the nation in job creation. As of March 2014, it ranked 47th. [Bureau of Labor Statistics]
Huge Corporate Tax Breaks

  • $2.1 billion– Under Christie, New Jersey has given away over $2.1 billion in corporate tax breaks and grants. [Bergen Record, 4/1/13]
  • $3.9 billion– In Pennsylvania, Corbett gives away $3.9 billion a year in corporate tax breaks. [Washington Post 01/30/14]
Massive Shortfalls

  • $807 million– Thanks to Christie’s overly rosy revenue projections, New Jersey faced a $807 million budget shortfall this year. [Star-Ledger, 4/29/14]
  • Over $1 billion– Under Corbett, Pennsylvania faces a potential budget shortfall of over $1 billion thanks to months of revenues coming in under projections. [Post-Gazette, 6/1/14]
Credit Downgrades

  • Highest unemployment– As of March 2014, New Jersey’s unemployment rate was more than a half a percent higher than the nation’s and was tied for the highest unemployment rate in the region, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
