You just don't get it, do you? When Intel sues ECS, they are being consistent with their earlier warning that motherboard manufacturers using unlicensed chipsets would be as liable as the chipset manufacturer themselves. Your personal opinion aside, the fact is that there is a dispute between whether VIA owns or does not own the rights to make Pentium 4 chipsets. By law, they need the rights to certain patents in some way or another. It's as simple as that. You can't really point the finger at Intel for defending their IP, as Semi has said, unless they lose in court.

Plus, realize that ECS is really not in a bad position right now, since VIA claimed responsibility for any losses incurred. Therefore, if Intel wins, VIA gets nailed doubly hard. It's starting to look more and more like they should settle this matter ASAP.
