Stupendous Fantasy and Fantastic Stupidity -- the CIA TigerHawk By Cardinalpark
Is it 1984 yet?
Powerline links us to a couple of articles which are excellent reading and move you off in directions which can't help but to promote paranoia and frustration.
First, the fun part. The NYT is coming apart at the seams over the Plame thing. Only the CIA could have caused such a thing. Remember the Times first wanted a special prosecutor, then opposed it. Then it defended Judith Miller. Now it's trying to fire her. Wow. Theater of the absurd. And it's tacky too. Bill Keller sort of implied Judith Miller and Scooter Libby were, er, "entangled." Oh. That's kinda gross, I think. I am grateful to Judy for having ixnay'ed that in her response.
The NYT has officially become a pretzel.
Then comes the next part. And this is not so funny. Andrew McCarthy at NRO Online (again through Powerline) observes correctly what hideous and loathsome creatures Judith Miller and Matthew Cooper in fact are, while they pretend to be hero martyrs of the Press Guild. In particular, he offers the following question -- why do we know the identity of their sources? Is it because we learned of their sources' identities from their Grand Jury testimony? No. That's secret, by law. It's because they blabbed publicly, something they clearly did not have to do if they were serious about their "journalistic obligations." As McCarthy points out, they will be cashing in shortly. He properly compares the Miller/Cooper circumstances to Novak and observes that we don't in fact know his sources -- because he protected them. Nauseating.
Now here's the 1984 part. Remember, all this stuff is really about the controversy over Iraq War policy, or more broadly about our shift in Middle East policy away from the historical support for local tyrants. And there are intelligence analysts and spooks who are fighting hard for the tyrants - Richard Clarke, Michael Scheuer ("Anonynous") and I guess Valerie Plame, to name but a few. So imagine that this whole fantasy started when a lightweight nothing person who's name will vanish into history wrote an op-ed piece for the NYT which has been subsequently debunked as inaccurate (some might dub it a lie). Bunk stirred up by the CIA. This nobody is in turn married to a CIA agent. The lying is going on ostensibly to impact a US election. Do we see where this is going?
Can we please do something about the CIA? It is a rogue organization with an unlimited budget and limited oversight. It has mingled with terrorists and tyrants and does not want to change with the policies of the US government, which it is supposed to serve, not the other way around. And here is another weird bit -- we have a marriage of convenience (I just can't say conspiracy) among the MSM, the CIA and the Democratic Party to undermine the policies set forth by the freely elected US government and instead defend the status quo of tyranny, oppression of women, suppression of the press and general brutality and genocide in the Middle East.
This is too bizarre. tigerhawk.blogspot.com |
