John, I tried to reach you the other day to send you a copy of my recent post. However, I have lost track of your new coordinates. Please PM me same. I hope all goes well for you. I would be very interested in your reaction to my post. I reprint it below.
"This morning I offered the following suggestion to Intel's Investor Relations Dept. However, I need your help, and Technology Investors in general's help, and the US Government's help to further promulgate the idea. The Telecommunications and Technology Industries need a "Killer Application". An application that rekindles demand for technology. At the same time we need to rally American workers to get them out of the malaise of the post September 11, feelings of helplessness. For many reasons, the urgency to find such killer ap is IMMEDIATE, if we are to turn this Global Economy around. The killer application which I suggest; is to reduce crime and the threat of terrorism. Said Technology applications should allow citizens in the United States, and people throughout the World, to travel, communicate and move about with the sense of security that we had prior to September 11. Some of the technology needed for this application solution is already available, but it needs Telecom and Technology Industry leaders, and the Government to centrally coordinate their efforts and to develop standards so as not to waste resources. It needs Industry leaders, such as Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, etc. to get together and put their companies and this economy back to work, doing what we do best, finding and selling technology solutions.
I can think of many improvements that the PC and Telecom Industry can contribute NOW that would improve physical security, Pattern Recognition, Coordinated data bases for improved screening, check point identification and many others However, I am sure there are many others here and in the technology community who are more technically qualified than I. Such a program, I believe, should be stimulated by the Government giving Research and Development and Investment Tax Incentives. These incentives should provide technology companies with the motivation to develop and implinent such solutions very quickly. Further, the tax incentives could be funded, (if the government chooses), by allowing tax payers to participate in their eventual success, (similar to War Bonds, but instead War Equities), Perhaps, taxpayers could contribute part of their Social Security payments, which of course ties in with what President Bush has previously envisioned and advocated.
I believe that such a program would; ---Help Technology workers, and Citizens in general, to once again feel potent. That we are not "helpless", but indeed we have the power to fight back. ---It would be a patriotic action that would allow both Private Industry and the Government to mutually work together for the common good. ---It makes business sense because given the events of September 11, there is now Worldwide demand for such products and solutions. ---It would instantly turn around the steadily eroding stock market, especially the depressed technology stocks, as investors rush into the market to participate."
If you believe there is something of merit here, I ask you promulgate this idea within Intel. Best regards, Jules B. Garfunkel |
