The dock strike effect is well-known just as inventory restocking accounted for a large part of the 5plus% in Q1...

Hmm. Did you know that business inventories shrank by some $29 billion in Q1? Here's what the BEA said:

"Private businesses increased inventories $1.0 billion in the second quarter, following decreases of $28.9 billion in the first quarter and $98.4 billion in the fourth."

Where is the restocking?

Re technology, not all techs are in the same leaky boat. There are software companies (particularly smaller ones) that continue to grow while others struggle. And even CSCO is expected to keep their streak alive on positive quarterly sales and earnings comparisons. OTOH, I'm not commenting on CSCO's valuation and even the companies that are doing relatively well still probably have suffering shareholders.

BTW, I think MSFT's news last week about boosting R&D spending and upping their staff by 10% was a real positive. Gates is smarter than me, even though he did quit college, so I'm guessing he sees something the rest of us are missing. ;-)
