tom, Black is a lot better than African American for those from the southern two thirds of the continent, but then we have the Arabs, Israelis, Berbers, and others that are not black, but lighter shades of brown. Some of the Berbers are white, so I don't know exactly what to do but name a group according to the nation, or continent, where they were born.
I'm,part celt too, but there are at least 3 branches of the celts, in Irish, Scots, and Welsh. There is a saying in Wales, that the Irish are Welsh, that learned how to swim. :^)
I feel that a person should be called in accord with the place he was born. The American Indians that still live, are just plain Americans like the rest of us, and I have a bit of their blood in me too. But, they are not native Americans. They could be called Aborigines, because that word means that they were the people living in a place that was discovered in the times of the ability to record them into history. Native means that their beginnings were in a specific place and they are still there. In fact, the origin of American Indians comes from ancient Mongols. |
